Fred miller joins five stars

Fred Miller has joined Five Stars International, Ltd. as a senior policy advisor. Miller will offer leadership development, mentoring and facilitation services in the public and private sectors.

Miller is a former director of Oregon’s Energy, Transportation, and Executive Departments (1976 – 1992). As director of the Executive Department, Miller effectively served as the chief operating officer of Oregon’s largest employer, chairing the Governor’s Management Staff meetings of cabinet level representatives from Economic Development, Education, Human Resources, Natural Resources, Public Safety, and Transportation agencies. He facilitated resolution of significant public policy issues that cut across agencies with competing statutory mandates and divergent constituent interests. Governors from both sides of the political aisle recognized his abilities in his selection to those posts.

Miller later served as  executive vice president of public policy and consumer services at Portland General Electric. In that role, he had responsibility for representing one of Oregon ’s most visible corporations in the public arena. His leadership, strategic planning and consensus-building skills not only served the corporation, but also diverse community organizations where he earned recognition for his community service, including the William S. Naito Outstanding Service Award (2001), the Investment in Dignity Award (2002), and, with his wife Karla Wenzel, the Heart of the Community Award (2004). Miller has a Ph.D. in economics from Michigan State University.

"Fred’s leadership development, mentoring and facilitation skills have been forged over 30 years of experience in the public and private sectors,"  said Lynn Frank, President, Five Stars International, Ltd.  "His insights and his ability to bridge public and private sector interests in public policy will enhance the effectiveness of any organization in the public arena."

Organizations with a commitment to leadership development will value Miller's Lessons of Leadership. In this half-day workshop, Miller distills 30 years of management experience in the public and private sectors into basic principles of effective leadership, principles that will enable any manger to become more successful.
